HYDERABAD: Chairperson of the Children’s Film Society of India Nandita Das on Tuesday alleged “misreporting” by the media about the state of affairs in the 16th International Children’s Film Festival, though not naming any organisation.
During a press conference organised prior to the open forum, she said the criticism should be “constructive” and asked for suggestions to be dropped in feed-back boxes.

Bangalore: India is not only perceived to be one of the most corrupt countries by the transparency international in its annual corruption perceptions, ranking 84th in the list of 180 countries in terms of public-sector corruption, which is perceived to be highly corrupt.
While releasing the list of naming and shaming the world’s most corrupt countries, the international watchdog has for the first time recommended that tax havens like Switzerland and Liechtenstein should do away with the secrecy in banking laws. (read more …)

HYDERABAD: Chief minister K Rosaiah on Tuesday urged all state MPs in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha to use their good offices with the Centre to pursue unresolved issues pertaining to the state.
Addressing nearly 40 MPs and 18 of his cabinet colleagues at the first interactive session at the Jubilee Hall here, he emphasised on the need to pursue with the central government all pending issues during the winter session of Parliament, which is scheduled to start from November 19. HYDERABAD: Denizens using the public transport for commuting were in for a rude shock on Tuesday morning with employees of the Andhra Pradesh Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) going on a lightning strike. Thousands of office-goers were left in the lurch with the morning rush-hour degenerating into chaos.
The strike was called by the National Mazdoor Union (NMU) to which about 70,000 employees of the total 1.2 lakh work force of APSRTC owe allegiance. The union demanded immediate implementation of the pay revision done with effect from April 1, 2009, regularisation of (read more …)

HYDERABAD: Five newborn babies on Sunday night died under mysterious circumstances in the infants’ ward of a hospital in Vijayawada, around 300 kms from here, triggering protest by their parents.
Doctors at the old government general hospital claimed three babies died a natural death and enquiry is on to ascertain the cause of the death of the other two infants. (read more …)
HYDERABAD: Burglars killed a security guard manning an automated teller machine (ATM) attached to the Chandrayangutta branch of the SBI in
Kanchanbagh on Sunday morning but failed to break open the cash chest.
The security guard B Mallesh Goud, 55, a resident of RN Nagar Colony in Kanchanbagh, was found in a pool of blood inside the ATM centre. His head was smashed with a pestle and he was also strangulated with a rope. Police suspect that Mallesh was sleeping while the robbers attacked him. (read more …)
